Pricing tips
A batch of handmade soap hides a lot of small costs: several oils bought in different sizes, lye, fragrance or essential oil, colourants, wrapping and labels. Then the bars sit for weeks while they cure. This calculator turns the whole batch into a price per bar that pays for every one of those costs and for your time.
- Weigh the oils as your recipe does. If you buy oil by the litre, enter it in ml with the bottle size, and Tagzinho works out the share you used.
- Count the bars you can actually sell. Trim the ends and set aside any that crack, then use that number for how many a batch makes.
- Fragrance is often the most expensive line per bar. Try the same batch with a cheaper scent and watch the price change before you choose.
- Curing space and moulds are fixed costs. Spread them across the bars you expect to sell each month.
Questions
How much should I charge for a bar of handmade soap?
Start from what one bar really costs you: its share of the oils, lye, scent and packaging, plus your time and a share of your monthly bills. Add the profit margin you want. If you sell on a marketplace, put its fee in and Tagzinho works the price backwards so the fee does not eat your profit.
Should the curing time be part of my price?
The weeks a bar cures are not hours you work, so do not add them as labour. They do tie up space and stock, so include shelving and racks in your fixed costs, and plan your batches so you always have cured bars to sell.
Melt and pour or cold process: does the calculator handle both?
Yes. For melt and pour, enter the soap base by weight like any other material. For cold or hot process, enter each oil, the lye and any additives as separate lines.

How Tagzinho works out your price
Each ingredient costs the share of its pack you use: 500 g of a 2.27 kg bag at $4.29 is $0.94.
Your time and a share of your monthly fixed costs are added to every unit.
The price is solved so that after the marketplace takes its percentage and fixed fee, you still keep your profit margin. Most calculators add the fee last and you end up short.
